Devices for EMR reduction and prolonged service life in electric motors
The ever increasing use of small motors in every facet of our daily lives (e.g. electric windows or sunroofs in cars, hairdryer, printer, DVD-player, PC etc.) results in increasing interference between the devices, which are triggered of the motors itself (“electromagnetic smog/emissions”). This problem will worsen in the future as conductor track density in microprocessors continues to increase, so they will become all the more sensitive to electromagnetic interference. Therefore, as early as 1996, the EMC Act (Act on Electromagnetic Compatibility) was passed, stipulating that the function of any and all electronic devices (including electric motors) must not be impaired. This development is documented, amongst other things, in the CISPR25 automotive standard, version CISPR25:2002 of which was applicable to the frequency range of 150 kHz to 108MHz, while the latest version CISPR25:2021 applies to a range of 150 kHz – 5,950MHz.
Since the mid-1960s, Sintertechnik (ST) has been developing and manufacturing customised solutions for the reduction of electromagnetic noise and service life prolongations of small motors. Worldwide market leaders in drive technology are using till today ST products in series. ST components are proven in most unusual of conditions (e.g. on planet Mars!) as well as in vehicle or aircraft applications or in medical technology. Besides clearly reducing electromagnetic noise, the use of ST products can also extend the service life of certain motors significantly (see below).
The suppression of the electromagnetic noise of a motor is always a very individual development task. The downloads contain a selection of motors in various power classes where, in some cases, the EMR was reduced substantially. We at ST are happy to develop and manufacture a suitable solution for EMR reduction in your motor!
